The Miser's Heart

A wealthy but reclusive miser, who has a secret affection for a little girl in his tenement building, becomes the target of two thieves. After breaking in, they tie up the old man and demand he open his safe. When he refuses, they dangle the girl from his window by a rope, threatening to let her fall. A passing tramp witnesses the event and rushes to alert the police, leading to a tense rescue mission to save the child and capture the criminals.
