Deemed an abnormal family by social services, a disabled teenager and his two older adoptive sisters escape their bleak urban existence. They set out on a cross country road trip to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, picking up another misfit along the way. Through his hobby of taking Polaroids, the boy documents their experiences, and the journey becomes one of self discovery as he finds his own way of seeing the world and what it means to be a family.
