Shadow of the Sword

Set in Tyrol, Austria, during the 16th-century Inquisition, this story follows two orphans, Martin and Georg, who grow up to be best friends. As adults, Martin becomes an army captain and later the town executioner to be with the woman he loves, while Georg becomes a priest and prior of the local monastery. Their lifelong loyalty is put to the ultimate test when a sadistic Inquisitor arrives, forcing them onto opposing sides of a brutal religious persecution that threatens to destroy them both.
