For the Defense

William Powell stars as William Foster, a sharp attorney who stays within the law while defending crooks and keeping them out of prison. He's involved with dancer Irene Manners, who secretly sees another man. After Irene kills a man in a hit-and-run, her lover takes the blame. When Foster's ring is found at the scene, he defends the accused and, believing he's protecting Irene, commits jury tampering only to learn it was unnecessary.
