In 1930s England, businessman Ricky Masters marries Madeleine but falls for her free-spirited sister, Dinah. Their affair leads to pregnancy, but Ricky stays in his marriage. After a tragic accident causes Dinah to lose their child, Madeleine reveals she always knew. Ricky wants to leave, but she refuses divorce.
